Constance Olabegi
An enterprising mother of three from Southport has opened up the towns first ever hairdressing salon which specialises in Afro-Caribbean hairstyles.
Constance Olabegi has always dreamed of opening up her own business and, after
attending the Business Enterprise Training course, at Train 2000, the Liverpool based
Centre for Women's Enterprise and Employment, she is delighted to now be her own
boss.
And, Constance really does have the cutting edge when it comes to hairdressing; offering her customers a range of Afro-Caribbean hairstyles including dread locks, weaves, plaits and extensions, as well as the everyday cuts, colours and blow dries.
The salon, which opened up on Eastbank Street in January, is called FAMAC.
Constance said:
"There are a lot of other hairdressers in Southport, so competition is very tough."
"However there aren't any other salons in the area which specialise in afro-Caribbean styles, so I am hoping to attract a lot of customers."
Constance, who is originally from Nigeria has lived in the town for several years now and says she is really excited about her new venture. She added:
"Afro-Caribbean styles such as dread locks, extensions and weaves are very much in fashion at the moment and a lot of people are keen to have them, whether they are men or women, young and old."
Prior to starting up in business Constance received training and one-to-one business advice and support from Train 2000.
"It has always been my dream to start up my own businesses" added Constance, "and I can't believe I've finally achieved it. I have worked in other hairdressers before, but it is a great feeling knowing that you're your own boss.
"Train 2000 provided me with a great deal of help and support and I would strongly recommend other women who are looking to start up in business, to access their services too."
