Ruth Sanderson

Ruth pictured with a friend modeling one of her designs When Ruth Sanderson graduated from university with a Degree in Design and a Masters in Textiles as fashion, she decided that rather than working for some one else, she would like to start up her own business.

Having already developed her own exclusive fashion label Vanity Aforethought and with plenty of ideas about where she would like to exhibit and sell her work, Ruth came to Train 2000 where she is currently receiving one-to-one business advice and help with putting her business plan together.

She said:

"When I completed my Masters, I decided that rather than getting a job and working for some one else, I would have a go at starting my own business, although it is proving to be hard work, I am really enjoying the challenge and it's great to see my fashion-wear in exclusive retail outlets such as The Lounge in Liverpool."

The 24-year-old also won a prestigious Craft Council scholarship meaning that from September onwards she can undertake a 'Next Move' placement at Manchester University.

Ruth added:

"I am really excited about all the opportunities that are coming my way at the moment. It was a great honour to be chosen by the Craft Council and to be able to exhibit at the New Designers exhibition in London, I am hoping that this will have a really positive impact on my career in this early stage."

Ruth will be exhibiting her Autumn/Winter 'Magpie' collection at the Bluecoat Chambers Display Centre in Liverpool from July 4th - 29th with a private view on July 7th.

"As well as textiles and fashion design I am also looking to expand my range and collections to include accessories as I want everyone who likes my work to be able to buy just at least a small piece of Vanity Aforethought,"

added Ruth.

Ruth describes her pieces of work as intriguing and mysterious which entice people to look closer and discover the hidden images and subtle variety of textiles.
